We love our alliteration down here at SMASH!, but what we really love most of all are our mascots, Cyrus and Skadi. And with Eminence in the building we figured what better way to express that love than to let all you budding artists out there introduce them to some kick-ass tunes?

This year, we invite you to take our friendly mascots and put them on an album cover – or on a concert poster – or just to stuff them into a band. What kind of band? It’s up to you! Classical concertinos or hardcore thrash-metal, so long as it’s awesome. Rock on!

How to Enter

For the Mascot Music Madness, you’ll have to get a DeviantART account (they’re free, don’t worry!) and submit your entry digitally to the SMASHCon DeviantART group. Entries must have the following details in the Artists’s comments: country of origin and the media format used. Additionally, the Deviation title should be in the format: “MMM: [title]”. Once DeviantART tells you you’ve been accepted, you’re in! Entries for the Mascot Music Madness competition close on Midnight AEST, Wednesday July 13th.

Judging Criteria

The Judging Criteria for the Mascot Music Madness competition are as follows:

• Execution – technical expertise and mastery of their chosen medium.
• Concept – your ideas, the type of musical idea inherent in the work.
• Aesthetics – how well that concept is expressed through composition, and through the overall look of the work.

Winners

The Mascot Music Madness competition will have two winners, a first place and second place winner. Winners will be announced on Monday July 25th.
1st Prize: Publication of winner’s artwork in Kiseki Magazine and a Copic Art Prize valued at $50.
2nd Prize: Publication of second placed winner’s artwork in Kiseki Magazine.

Display of Entries

Selected Mascot Music Madness entries will be put up for display at the actual convention, some digitally as part of a slide-show and others in actual print format (if we can spare the time and ink)! If you’re able to attend, you are welcome to come and collect your awesome print-out; just step up to the art table and verify your identity first. They will also be exhibited digitally via the SMASH! DeviantART group and the SMASH! Website.
