Kenji Ito

Having contributed to the composition of the Final Fantasy series for almost 11 years, the highly acclaimed Kenji Ito (also known by the nickname Itoken), is considered as a prominent figure in the videogame music industry. Notably famous for a number of his composed soundtracks including: Final Fantasy Gaiden: Seiken Densetsu, Romancing SaGa 1-3, SaGa Frontier, Chocobo’s Mysterious Dungeon 2 and Chocobo Racing, Kenji Ito has continued composing works even after leaving Square-Enix to become a freelance composer in 2001.

From first playing piano at the age of 4 to engaging his passion by composing at the age of 10, Kenji Ito has had profound experience as a composer and arranger and within the music industry, having built up his skills playing the clarinet and alto saxophone for middle school and high school. He was largely inspired by his love for Japanese pop music and songs composed for animation titles, as well as music by other well-known composers such as Billy Joel, Paul Muriat and Richard Clayderman. His ambition remains as composing music for various singers and visual works on an international level as well as to hopefully release some of his own original albums in the future.

Even after freelancing, Kenji Ito has continued working with Square Enix titles together with the notably famous Nobuo Uematsu in works such as Sword of Mana, Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song and Hanjuku Hero 4: 4-7nin no Hanjuku Eiyuu. In addition, Kenji ito has also composed songs for theatre performances and musical artists; these include Kokoro no Takarabako (Hiromi Ohta), Canaria (Muneyuki Satoh) and Hajimari no Daichi (Manami Kiyota) to name a few.

Currently, Kenji Ito remains a freelance composer and arranger.
