Please read these following rules if you intend on participating in the art competitions.

Content

  • For artworks entered into a themed category, you may interpret the theme in any way you wish, but it must not be so obscure that the judges cannot reasonably identify the original theme.
  • Fanart and fan-inspired artworks are allowed. Works submitted must not be plagiarized or copied from existing sources.
  • Artworks submitted must not have been in previous commercial use (EG: Commissioned and commercial illustrations, or artworks already submitted to other art competitions).
  • Submitting anything that falls under the restricted content rules will be immediately refused and withdrawn from the art competition. If you are unsure of whether your artwork is suitable, please don't hesitate to contact the Art staff for clarification. As a general rule, SMASH! is a PG event, and affectionate poses and kissing are allowed (within reason). Restricted content is as follows:
    • Pornographic, sexually explicit or suggestive material.
    • Sexually orientated violence (Such as characters appearing ‘forced’, in duress, or depictions of sadism/masochism)
    • Frontal and tasteless nudity
    • Extreme violence or gore

Submitting and Collecting

  • By submitting your art to the SMASH! art competitions, you agree to have read and understood the terms and conditions, and that the information you have provided as part of your submission form is correct. Failure to comply with the Terms and Conditions may result in your disqualification from this and future events
  • Artworks will only be accepted at the convention at the Art Competition Registration Table (Level 2 Drawing Room) between 10AM and 3PM and must be collected by the close of the convention, otherwise your artwork will be retained by SMASH!
  • You may enter as many categories as you like, and you may submit more than one entry per category. However, entrants are only eligible to win one art competition prize. That is to say, one artist cannot win in more than one category.
  • All artists entering the competition must submit their artwork with a completed application form. This can be downloaded from the website (available soon) and filled in prior to the event, and spare forms will also be available on the day.
  • When submitting artwork, please be aware that we cannot guarantee it will be completely secure for the duration of the convention. Therefore we advise you bring a copy rather than the original piece, especially for entries to the Traditional Artwork category.
  • Art pieces that are A4 in size should be presented in a plastic sleeve. If you are unable to supply a sleeve, staff will have several spares available, but we advise you to please bring your own; this is for the protection of your artwork. For any artworks larger than A4, it is the artists responsibility to ensure it has adequate protection. We will not be held in account for any damages, but we will make sure to handle all artworks with care.
  • All art pieces must have your name and mobile number on the back. At the end of the day when collecting your art piece you will be asked to repeat your details; this is just an identification precaution to ensure that artworks are returned to their correct owners.
  • All contact details and personal details will stay private, and no members of the public or third parties will receive this information.
  • Please be aware that if you plan on volunteering for SMASH!, all committee members and volunteers are ineligible to claim or be judged for any Art Competition or other event prizes
