Cosplay Chess is back and better than ever as it returns for its fifth year at SMASH! Two chess grandmasters face off against each other with all the pieces played by participants dressed in costume. It is as awesome as it sounds.
Ever wanted to see Edward Elric battle Naruto? Or Goku pulling a fast kamehameha on Ichigo? Here’s your chance! Cosplay Chess is a fun game where two teams battle each other on a human-sized chess board, with cosplayers taking on the role of the chess pieces. The game promises hilarious consequences as your favourite characters face off on the chess board.
Cosplay Chess occurs during the convention. We’ll have a time and a map of the location soon!
So what is Cosplay Chess, you ask? Cosplay Chess is a fun, even geekier version of chess. Ingredients? Take two chess players, 32 cosplayers, and one life-sized board.
The game is played out like Wizards’ Chess, with a short mock-battle taking place when a piece is taken. Visualise this: Riku is a bishop, Winry is a pawn, and the bishop is taking the pawn. Riku and Winry will then have a mock-fight (preferably a funny one), which must be quick, and then Winry will “die” and leave the board while Riku wins and moves into her square.
