Fortunately we have Wacom sponsoring us with Cintiqs. So the lucky challengers will be using one each throughout the competition.

It's pretty simple - like it says on the smash website - you are given the theme and get 30 minutes to sketch up a short scenario in manga form, using the Cintiq (in Photoshop I guess...) :v The judges make comments whilst you draw and everyone oohs and ahhs at your work. >< Judges pick one winner who gets to take home the prize and title of "Manga Idol 2008".

Think 24-hour comic challenge but pocket-size. :3 (except we pick a theme and you only get 30 minutes so your comic will probably be MAXIMUM 2 pages...) You can be as rough as you want - but if your work doesn't communicate the idea well then the judges will probably pick that up.

It's judged by how creative you can be with that idea and how well you communicate that idea. Of course, having technical skill in photoshop will be a plus.

Any specific questions, please post here!

I know there many great talented artists lurking in this forum, why not try applying :)

Ah i used the wrong wording.... The Cintiq is actually an interactive pen display. It's one where it has an LCD and you draw straight on the LCD screen. We used it on stage last year as well, you may remember it if you had a chance to see the wacom display last year.

edit: please check Wacom's website for more info on the Cintiq :)

Ooh it's not panelling anymore.
So is it like who can make as many drawings as they can based on the several different themes within 30 minutes? Of course never forgetting quality. Or is it one drawing per theme.... bah... I'm confused... should I...

Syku: It'll be more like 2 short rounds of drawing... (probably a 10 mins and a 20mins round... this is not confirmed yet) they will both have different themes.  :)

Basu: aww ok, are you going to be stuck at the artist table again this year? why not try joining the traditional art comp I know you're really good at that  :v

Koneko: I would give you the same advice XD why not try the traditional or the doodle comp. see our art comps page for more details.

Basu: You are free to enter any/all of our art comps, but like last year our art comp rules state; you can only win one competition. So if you enter 2 things and happen to win one of them, you are then not eligible to win the other. Make sense?

Specifically for Manga Idol, you will need to compete on stage, so if you have an artist table you will need to leave your table for around 1hr. If you are interested in applying please follow the instructions in the first post

Btw I'm pretty sure Wacom will place the Cintiqs at their stall the rest for the rest of the convention, so anyone who wants to try it out can try it out there  :v
