[2007] [Info and log] SMASH! travelling artbook - AUSTRALIA POST = FAIL

August 6
- Book is missing in action! Australia post is full of fail.
Please come back to us, dear book... We miss you so!
----
What is the travelling artbook?
The travelling artbook is an A5 landscape Dayler Rowney hardbound sketchbook, with 60 double-sided 150gsm pages.
On the less technical side of things, the travelling artbook is a collaborative effort between artists. The book will work its way from artist to artist, each one adding their own page (or more~) of artworks and illustrations. On the day of the convention it will be passed around the Artists Circle and other areas, where anyone can add their mark and contribute a doodle or two.
How do I become a part of this project?
If you are at the convention on the day you will be able to draw in it while you are there. However, time will be limited on the day, so the book is also available to draw in before the convention. If you would like to be a part of its trip please post here with your interest or get in touch with me via e-mail at
nadia@smash.org.au
. Please advise us of your general geographic location and where you can/are willing to travel to receive or pass on the book.
It is possible for the book to be posted, although you will be required to pay for the postage to the next person on the list, and you cannot hold the book for more than
five
days at a time. Even if you are unable to finish your artwork in that time, we would please ask that you send it on regardless. We do not want it to get lost or become stuck with one person for a long period of time whilst there are other artists wanting to contribute. The book will also wind its way geographically, so closer artists are likely to get it first.
Ideally, of course, you will be able to just hand it to the next artist in-person (Save on postage~
)
What will happen to the book afterwards?
The book will be auctioned off at the end of the convention, with all proceeds going to the
Fred Hollows Foundation
. That's right; the highest bidder on the day will get their hands on this lovely, one-of-a-kind collection of artworks. Better start saving!
What are the rules, and what else do I need to know?
The same content rules for Artist Circle artwork display also apply to the travelling book. Restricted content includes:
Pornographic, sexually explicit or suggestive material. Sexually orientated violence
(Such as characters appearing 'forced', in duress, or depictions of sadism/masochism).
Frontal and tasteless nudity. Extreme violence or gore.
Please leave your name and website address (if applicable) somewhere on the page so we can identify the artist
Please be careful not to damage the book. Interfering with other artist's pages will not be tolerated; new artists should move on to a new page rather than using up any 'spare' space left by previous artists. Pages should never be ripped out of the book.
There is no 'standard' quality level for pre-prepared artworks. It can be anything from a sketch to a fully coloured piece; it's up to you and your time and creativity. The purpose of pre-prepared works is simply to give artists an opportunity to draw something without feeling rushed or constrained by the Convention conditions.
Pre-prepared artworks are limited to 2 pages per artist. If you are using Copics or other materials which may bleed, please be mindful that it will show through on the other side (The weight is thick enough that it should not bleed on to the next page, however)
The maximum amount of time any one artist can have exclusive access to the book is 3-5 days
. If you have not completed your artwork by that time you will have to leave it unfinished. Please be considerate of other artists who want to contribute
SMASH! will pay for the initial postage of the book to anyone who is practically unable to commute to their nearest book-toting artist. It is the responsibility of the person receiving the book to pay for postage to the next artist if required. Persons in possession of the mailed book should contact SMASH! so we know who has it and where it's going next. We don't want the poor thing to get lost~
The book should be returned to one of the SMASH! committee members no later than one week before the convention
Have fun! Remember, this isn't a competition, so don't get too hung up over making a perfect artwork. Relax and let your creativity flow

Ditto! 8D
That's amazing, Poshua, but I guess we expected no less. I didn't know we could use the whole two page spread, that's creative, 8].
I can't want to make my contribution 8]

Don't think I'll work as a banner, The actual book is very small and I'm a messy artist

While Paul's working on his piece we can arrange the next Artist:
Chuc (Lane Cove)
Syku (Hornsby-ish)
Dev Kimiko (Killara)
who will come to Chatswood recently (Friday - Sunday)
?

I'm doing the 24 Hour challenge on Saturday, plus I have quite a bit of homework to finish over the weekend, so count me out for being next.

Fantastic. 8D
I can't get it this week because I've got deadlines to meet and help with some house issues...
And it's long weekends too, (YES!!).
Seeing as Chuc can't make it, if Kimiko can't make it either I'll see if I can go, though. Long weekends, more free time.

I can take it if no-one else can, though I don't know how much time I'll have to draw in it since I still haven't finished Uni
(And I'm a bit rusty... I wanted to draw in it after I'd had some practice drawing my comic for Generation
). Though, that means I can finally make the cover I was going to do for it
(This way it will stand out during the convention and won't get mixed up with other sketchbooks).
