Our current major sponsors for this year are:

Madman - Madman is the largest distributor of anime and manga in Australia and provide invaluable support to the anime community in Australia. The Madman stall will be available on the day, providing anime and manga goods at bargain prices to SMASH! con goers.

Wacom - Wacom is a leading manufacturer of pen tablets and pens, perfect for expressing digital art, especially in anime where Wacom's Intuos3 pen tablets are used as a standard tool in the anime/manga industry in Japan.
Wacom will be helping SMASH! to bring about some very special features this year - keep watching the SMASH! website for more details as they become publicly available!

Yorokonde: Anime Anytime - Yorokonde is one of the most respected anime merchandise and dvd importers in Australia, carrying both the latest from Japan and old classics. Yorokonde will be having a stall on the day so be sure to check out the items that they have on offer on the day!

Kinokuniya - Kinokuniya has one of the largest ranges of anime and manga for sale, including both translations and raws direct from Japan.
This year SMASH! is proud to announce that Kinokuniya will be sponsoring our Maid Cafe, adding to the atmosphere and definitely assisting in making an event to remember!

SMASH! would like to thank Madman, WACOM, Yorokonde and Kinokuniya again, for their kind support.

Be a part of SMASH!

Volunteers - Help us make SMASH! a success!

Ever worked at an anime convention before? Want to? SMASH offers a training program so that prior experience isn't necessary! All that is required is that you are motivated, hard-working and enthusiastic! You'll meet lots of new people, and gain experience that can help you in the workforce.

As a SMASH volunteer, you'll be part of a team that will work to assist staff and convention-goers in an area of the convention.

We're especially interested in locating people with A/V experience; if you have any digital video camera skills or backstage experience, with equipment such as soundboards, visual mixers as well as being generally knowledgeable/good with electronic equipment, please let us know!

For more information including how to apply and our code of conduct please check out our volunteers information page: http://www.smash.org.au/volunteers/volunteer-info

Comiket - Want to present your work to a SMASH! audience?

SMASH! artist tables are still available but are filling very fast! If you're not lucky enough to be able to apply in time, or unable to make it to SMASH! on the day, you might be interested in our Comiket package!

For a small commission on sold items, Comiket lets you sell your art at SMASH! without even being there - or leaving you free to have fun on the day.

Interested? Take a look at the Comiket Pack Application for information: http://www.smash.org.au/public/SMASH2008-ComiketPackApp.pdf

Have a question? Want to make an enquiry? Ecstatic about being able to come? Why not pop in on our forum thread, or shoot us an email at art@smash.org.au.

Fun Stuff

SMASH! recommends: Gunslinger Girls

Cute girls, action and a secret military agency - what more could you want?

Gunslinger Girls is exactly that, and very much not. If you're looking for fanservice, you should try something else, but if you're interested in character development and an interesting look at power this might be the series for you!

The series revolves around Henrietta and several other girls who have been adopted by "the Agency". While at first glance they appear to be harmless school girls carrying musical instruments; they are in fact trained, surgically enhanced, heavily armed, Special Ops - perfect for both undercover missions and direct fights where the element of surprise can be used for tactical advantage.

The Gunslinger girls are interesting with their relationshiges. The girls are brainwashed to be completely loyal and attached to their handler, in order to minimise any threat the girls might pose. The developments and consequences of this are shown, sometimes lightly with a comical quality and at other times more dire.

Visually stunning, philosophically intriguing, with some great attention to detail - particularly with weaponry, Gunslinger Girls is produced by Studio Madhouse and has been released by Madman Entertainment - the complete boxset is available here.
