2D Art Competition
Hi everyone!
We welcome you to a weekend at the ICC for SMASH! 2024.
With the return of the convention, comes the exciting return of our wildly popular 2D themed art competition!
For 2024, we are ecstatic to reveal that the theme will be… 🥁🥁🥁
🕰️ NOSTALGIA 🕰️
Whether it be coming home after school to watch your favourite anime on TV like the iconic battles of Gundam or comedic shenaniganry of Ouran High School host club, trading playing cards or VHS tapes, we eagerly look forward to you sharing those warm and fuzzy feelings of nostalgia with us through your art! (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)و
Illustrated entries of all mediums are accepted, so sharpen those pencils and remember to hit save regularly!

How to Participate
- Create your artwork using any traditional medium or digital platform or device of your choice.
- Submit only new and original artwork.
- Use the submission form button to submit your entry before the deadline!
Piece Requirements
Create a piece featuring ONE or BOTH of the SMASH!’s Mascots, Skadi & Cyrus, themed around NOSTALGIA!
Who Can Participate?
- This competition is for everyone of all ages!
- A single applicant may submit multiple entries.
- An entry can be worked on by a group. However, distribution of the prizes will be split amongst the group.
- SMASH! Staff and Crew are allowed to enter their works in any of the Art competitions; however, under no circumstances will special consideration be given to any entrant during the judging and selection process.
Judging Criteria
Our guest judges will be evaluating submissions on the originality, quality and overall impression of the pieces!
- Originality reflects the artist’s unique approach to the theme.
- Quality involves the artist’s mastery of the medium, intended to showcase their control of composition, lighting, and details of their piece.
- Overall impression takes into consideration the presentation and visual appeal and the overall atmosphere that is created by the piece!
Winner Selection
- There will be ONE winner and ONE runner-up per category and ONE overall winner chosen by our guest Art Judges for 2024!
Submission Details
Although entries must be submitted via the form to qualify, artists are welcome to bring in a physical copy of their artwork during the SMASH! event days to the Art Info Booth for display.
Artists MUST collect their artwork by no later than 5pm on Sunday 21 July 2024. Unless awarded a prize, we will not post artwork back to artists.
If the artwork needs to be posted back to the artist, postage must be paid for by the artist.
Specifications
- Please ensure that your artwork has been saved, photographed or scanned clearly.
- Please name the file with your ‘ArtistName_ArtworkTitle’.
- File size should not exceed 5MB.
- Preferred file formats are .JPG, .PNG or .PDF.
Submission
Before you get stuck into it, our competition will be opening soon! If you want to get ahead of the competition, take a read of the terms and conditions!
Once you have completed the submission, you should receive a confirmation of submission in your email.

Remember, winners will be announced at the Arts Stage on Sunday, so please make sure you come see and celebrate all the creative people who have fought against time to finish their pieces!
